So, umm . . . what's wrong with this, exactly?

Veggie Tales + Lord of the Rings parody = massive amounts of approval from me

1.) I hate Veggie Tales. Or at least, don't really like them that much. They are on occasion mildly amusing. No more than that.
2.) I think a lot is going to be "lost in translation". With the Bible stories, typically, there is only one step of difference between the original story, and what the kids see. Often, there are only mild humurous changes. The basic meaning of the story still gets through. Here, they seem to have taken the window dressing of a parody of the movie, which in itself is somewhat different from the book, to put across a totally different message. From what I can tell, so much has been changed, it is practically a smear on Tolkien's work.

1) Your own opinion does not factor into the validity of the work. I cannot stand Tolkein's writing, but I still admire his quality.
2) The goal of Veggie Tales' Bible stories is to tell the story of the Bible. Their goal in this film is not to tell The Lord of the Rings. The entire purpose of parody is to make fun of the original work, including its original meaning. In this case, as they parody the original meaning, they are also forming their own meaning based on Biblical teachings.

To summarize: Big Idea has taken a fantasy that is familiar to children, changed sufficient information to amuse small children, and still manage to teach children a Biblical lesson.

Once again, what's the problem?
